What is the Ecocosm?     Our Crisis Hypothesis    The Ecocosm Paradox    A Solution Method

The Ecocosm Paradox

Because the impact of the human presence has grown beyond the carrying capacity of the Earth system, unconstrained growth can no longer be permitted.

The Ecocosm Paradox is the set of dilemmas that arise from the compound hyper-exponential growth of annual world human consumption.   This paradox is best  represented by a diagram showing the major system feedback loops that perpetuate it.

The two main characteristics of The Ecocosm Paradox are:

  • If human consumption growth continues, the planetary life support system will be disabled and humanity will itself become endangered.
  • If consumption growth is stopped, the viability of the world's economic and financial systems will be threatened, and the stability of governments and society will deteriorate.
