What is the
Ecocosm? Our Crisis Hypothesis
The Ecocosm Paradox A
Solution Method
A Solution Method
A solution to The Ecocosm Paradox must:
- Alter human collective
consciousness and the world socio-economic system structure to limit consumption growth . We
call this the Stability Criterion.
- Do this soon enough to preserve the critical components of the Earth's life support system
that are necessary to sustainably support life indefinitely. We
call this the Sufficiency Criterion.
In order to be successful, the new system structure
must be in harmony with
- Human instincts, desires, and capabilities
- Plant and animal community functions
- Planetary dimensions and resources
and must automatically and quickly limit
human consumption.
A specially-tailored method of
analysis, synthesis, and implementation is needed to find and implement
such a system. (Read about the details of this method in our paper "The Bridge
to Humanity's Future" available on our Catalog page.)
In order to analyze the current Ecocosm system, synthesize a new
one, and implement it, this method will need:
- A new, problem-focused discipline that
can adequately conceptualize and analyze the whole Ecocosm as a single system ,
while also evaluating regional effects and trade-offs. This will require synthesizing
knowledge from many separate disciplines, and finding ways to integrate and compare
their variables. It will also require observing dynamic change over time of
those variables. We call this new discipline Ecocosm
Dynamics.
- A group of people to
create the discipline, perform the analysis and design, and guide the
implementation. These people will come from many different backgrounds.
In order to form an effective team, they must be able to integrate their knowledge,
skills, and goals in much the same way that that the new discipline must synthesize its
holistic body of knowledge. We call this team the Ecocosm
Research Group. (For more information about this team, please see
our Projects page.)
- A research project
dedicated to solving the Ecocosm Paradox. Its name should focus the
attention and motivation of the Ecocosm Research Group and others on finding
and implementing a solution to this critical problem. We call it Operation Rainbow Bridge .
